HVA - AGM & Conference 2010

HVA's AGM and Conference was held on Tuesday 16th November. As well as the formal business of the AGM, it was also an opportunity for HVA’s Director Steve Manwaring to highlight some of the achievements over the past year, and HVA’s plans for the future.
The theme for this year’s conference: “Managing Change in Difficult Times” highlighted some of the challenges and opportunities that voluntary organisations and community groups are likely to face in the next few months, and encourage members to be prepared for the affects of the economic downturn, the public finance pressures and the structural changes which will occur as a result of the coalition government’s reforms.
The guest speaker was Caitlin McMullin from the Urban Forum, which is a national charity and a membership organisation that act as a bridge between policy-makers and community groups operating on the ground. Caitlin gave an overview of the Comprehensive Spending Review and how its relevance to voluntary and community organisations, as well as focusing on the coalition’s Big Society initiative. There were also workshops about sources of funding, social enterprises and employment law.
