Who Does What

Hastings Voluntary Action provides a range of services and development support for voluntary and community groups in the town. Services and staff contacts are detailed below. If you know the service you require there may be a direct number you can dial. If not or if you have a general enquiry, telephone the main office number, Hastings 444010. The office is usually staffed between 9.00am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday.

Information (newsletter) – John Humphries, Information Officer

  • Maintains HVA membership and database/directory of local organisations
  • Manages HVA’s websites and on-line information resources.
  • Edits ‘Hastings Community News’. Copy deadline for articles is the 14th of each month and a small charge is made for inserts.
Group Support and Accountancy - Pat Weaver, Community Accountancy Worker

  • Provides information, advice and training on organisational and financial management.
  • Conducts Independent Examinations for small groups.
  • Helps new groups get started.

  • Provides advice and training to develop fundraising skills.

  • Accessible Town centre meeting rooms within easy reach of local transport services.
  • Reasonable charges for meetings, seminars and training for up to 14 people.
 
Administrator Hastings & Rother Health & Social Care Forum Administrator - Cheryl Davis – Wednesday and Thursdays
  • Provide administrative support for the effective running of the Hastings & Rother Health & Social Care Forum which includes Voluntary Organisations Supporting Older People and Children & Families Reference Group.

  • Recruits and refers prospective volunteers with local volunteer involving organisations.
  • Promotes and advertises volunteering opportunities.
  • Provides good volunteer management guidance and training.

  • Supports the Community Network enabling voluntary and community groups to be represented on the Local Strategic Partnership.
  • Oversees a programme of support, advice and training for voluntary and community sector representatives on partnership bodies.

  • Provides a point of contact for individuals and voluntary organisations, dealing with your  enquiries, providing information or putting you in contact with an appropriate member of staff who can assist you.
  • Provides administrative support for the work of the Hastings Community Network, helping  to maintain up to date information to assist HCN and its representatives to carry out their role.

Hate Crime Officer (Race and Faith) – Habibah Anwar-Bhatti, Increase the level of Hate Crime reporting and offer a more comprehensive service to victims. Direct Line: 01424 204683. Email habibah@hvauk.org
  • Works with with a caseload of individuals who hae been the victim of alleged hate crime.
  • Ensure that the service is know, understood and trusted by different racial or faith groups.
  • Extend thenumber of trained community advocaes available in Hastings.

CVS Partnership Development Officer - James Leathers

  • Providing a link to the SpeakUp Fourm, the voice for the sector in East Sussex.
  • Sharing resources and good practice between the four CVSs.
MEMBERSHIP

Membership of Hastings Voluntary Action is open to voluntary organisations and community groups whose aims and values are consistent with HVA’s and who are working for the benefit of people in the Hastings area. Membership reflects the diversity of the voluntary and community sector and includes groups working in the fields of health and social welfare, environment, arts and leisure, education, community action and self-help. In addition to the services and development work support HVA has to offer we also provide members with:

  • A channel of communication with policy makers and local authorities.
  • A larger platform for advocating voluntary and community sector interests.
  • Opportunities for groups to work in partnership to address issues of common concern.
